In addition she runs three adult community choirs where all the music is learned by ear and is mostly self arranged.One of Gitika's major loves is a cappella vocal arranging which she does for her three choirs and her vocal workshops. Her arrangements are used by youth and community choirs across the UK and internationally. This book contains the first of many of her arrangements she would like to share even more widely.She is a member of the Natural Voice Practitioner Network an organisation that believes in singing as a spontaneous way of expressing joy celebration and grief and as a medium for binding communities together. Gitika shares the network's belief that singing together should be available to all and is not about having 'a good voice'. All of her groups are non-audition and open to anyone who wants to sing.

Four poems sharing a common motif of 'Night' provide the texts for my choral cycle Nocturnes, the American Choral Directors Association's commissioned work for its 2005 national convention. For Rilke's atmospheric ?Sa nuit d'ete,? several melodic themes are supported by dense, colorful harmonies in both the choral and piano parts, leading to a climactic section where all are combined and stated simultaneously. Neruda's ?Soneto de la Noche,? from his Cien Sonetos de Amor, speaks of an eternal love that transcends death while reaffirming life. My a cappella setting of this gorgeous poem is predominantly quiet, serene and folk-like, utilizing direct harmonies accompanying long, lyrical vocal lines. Agee's wondrous ?Sure on this Shining Night? is set much like a song from the American musical theater, a genre for which I have held a life-long esteem. Rilke's poignant ?Voici le soir? recalls the opening bell sounds and jazz-tinged chords of the first movement and serves as an epilogue, quietly concluding this cycle of night songs as darkness descends.

H. A. Schimmerling's Kde Su Kravy Moje (G'de Soo Krahvy Moye) for SATB chorus a cappella.This is a gay and effective choral arrangement of a well-known Slovak Folk tune. It tells the story if a girl cowherd who awakens from a nap to find that during her slumber her cows have wandered away over the meadows. She cries out 'Where are my cows?' and begins to hunt for them calling for them by their individual names.
